July Rock Stars – Plants that show off in the Southeast summer

As I walk and drive around the Raleigh area this time of year, I love to see the plants that show off in this extreme weather.  They seem to say, “100 degrees?  No problem, look what I can do!”  The July Rock Stars I chose to highlight are pictured below.  I narrowed the stars to one plant from each landscape category: annual, perennial, shrub and tree.

Fuschia Supertunia with White Queen Caladium

Cheyenne Spirit Coneflower

Petite Indigo Butterfly Bush

Catawba Crape Myrtle

Taking a few moments to admire these plants reminds me why I love this climate and I love landscaping.  There are many more colors, sizes and varieties of plants that also thrive so let us know if you would like more suggestions for your yard.  Note that Raleigh is climate zone 7b when selecting and caring for your plants.

The headliner photo is Fuschia Supertunia with Zahara Zinnia.
